Theme: Collaboration

Length: 90 Minutes

Target Audience: Elementary Teachers

In today’s world collaboration, innovation and the ability to problem solve are essential skills.  Come explore ways to bring these skills to the forefront through STEM and coding in the elementary classroom. We will discuss how to set-up a positive classroom environment that promotes collaboration and creative risk-taking in young students.  We will also go over the importance of structuring groups and the student rolls within them.  Throughout the session we will be experiencing different STEM and coding activities as students ourselves.  We will play with robots like Dot and Dash, Ozobot, and Sphero, along with coding apps such as Swift, Scratch Jr. and Kodable.  Most importantly we will learn how to incorporate STEM and coding into current curriculum to enhance what students are already learning.  There will be time to collaborate with others to develop ideas and explore new concepts.  This is not a session for just science, math and technology teachers.  Come experience the fun and see what all the hype is about!

Learning Targets:
Participants will:

  • have an understanding of ways to set-up a positive, collaborative, classroom environments
  • learn ways to structure groups to be successful in STEM and coding activities
